about me

I have spent the much of the last 5 years travelling around China 'trying' to do business, with a little success and a lot of frustration. Those many hours in hard landing 'planes and rather delapidated hotels around the Peoples Republic allowed me time to write my first novel (The Descartian Truth). Anyone for another chicken foot or duck's head?

The Descartian Truth

David Beckett

John is thrown into a very different world to that of his London home. Escaping a warped religion he battles with reason and human folly.

René Descartes: “I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am.”

As a result of his horrific childhood and life's failure, John has become a depressive. He is stumbled across by Ben who looks to save John from the suicide that he had decided upon - their friendship based on deep philosophical debates on their opposing and passionately-held religious views.

Chasca lives in a very different place, a walled fortress city which is set deep within jungles and mountains. She is charged with looking after wellbeing of 'the Messiah', the deity who is worshipped by the empire's new religion and provides them with miraculous insights.

When the two worlds unexpectedly collide, Chasca and John are forced to escape the warped plan to cement the religion's grip on its people. Meanwhile, John struggles to come to terms with the bizarre situation he finds himself in. They retreat to a mountain village from where Chasca believes that John will lead them to victory over the religion's evil rule.

Hi Sheryl Sorry for taking far too long to get to your book - been busy! Anyway, you deserve the ranking and good luck with the editior's panel. This topic is hard hitting and will be very marketable, privoking debate in a very contentious and important area. I am no editor, so I won't pretend t... view book

Richard Absolutely awesome first chapter. I was sucked in and really felt the discomfort and fear that poor Serena was feeling. Wow. Had to read on and disappointed that started 18 months later. What happened to Serena? Perfect hook!!!! The next few chapters were just as great. Really lo... view book

BK This is really excellent. I can see why you are already published. Loved the storyline - gripped me from the first para. Not sure why you need a prologue rather than just calling it chapter 1. I was going to ask whether there really were cops that 'specialised' in suicides, but given that yo... view book

Ranny The pitch interested me to read and see where you went with this intriguing religious slant (although I would wholly disagree that America would become 'dark' if Christianity was eliminated - in fact I would say it would be a hellova lot more free and better off!....). Mat. I really liked the first chapter and the interaction between the ticket office and the rambling ol' truck driver. I was immediately drawn in. Perhaps split the POVs with **** or something. When she leans forward (checking that her boss wasn't overhearing), I expected a shocking attack, but s... view book
