about me

I am forever halfway into writing 'A Drowning in Cognac'. I am all too easily distracted. I spend too much time on displacement activities such as reading works on this site.

My family regard my literary efforts as being on a par with Ernie Wise's 'The Play What I Wrote'. I sort of agree with them.

Up to now the only book I have had published was one to help client's through the Annual Report production process. I used to run a London-based graphic design consultancy specialising in Annual Report design. (Did I really do that?)

Otherwise, I look after dogs whilst their owners are on holiday. I am an enthusiastic if unskillful potter.

favourite books

For great storytelling some of the first books I read stay with me:
The Midnight Folk by John Masefield
Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome
Treasure Island by R L Stevenson
to which I would add
The Weathermonger by Peter Dickenson

Authors whose next book I will always try to read; Sue Grafton, Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Tony Broadbent, Catriona McPherson and Jacqueline Winspear.

This book is very well written with a sure touch, I think the writer is potentially the best I have come across in this genre on Authonomy. I whizzed through 12 chapters without pause. I enjoyed it, and yet when I paused I felt that it was all too fast and insubstancial. For the first time in a ... view book

First thing to say is that these first chapters of your story has all the makings of being a terrific read. You have a great story in the making and it is set at a time and in a place few in the West know much about. The first chapter sets-up the book with a crackling action sequence. Then we get... view book

A magnificent book – I put everything on hold until I read it to its end. Amongst the finest books that I have discovered on this site. I thought the novel when seeing the evacuation through a child’s eyes was masterful. By coincidence, last week, I met a man whose school had been evacuated to Co... view book

Reading your pitch, I rather think that it is women's magazines that use the faces of beautiful women. Men's magazines are not so lofty. Will start reading the book now... view book
