Collision

John Donoghue

What happens when psychiatry collides with the supernatural? A woman diagnosed with schizophrenia insists she is possessed by the Devil. This is her story.

What happens when your doctors won’t believe what you tell them? In a psychiatric hospital a disturbed young woman believes she is possessed by the Devil; the psychiatrists tell her she’s mentally ill. When she asks for an exorcism, they insist she takes medication, but it doesn’t help. Caught in the middle is Edward Plant, a trainee psychiatrist whose life is one long party; trivial and purposeless – until he is drawn irresistibly into this case. When he meets an extraordinary woman who shows him that in order to receive love he must learn to give love, he begins to doubt the certainties that once ruled his world. Against the teaching of his mentors, Edward confronts the possibility that demonic possession may be a real phenomenon – with terrible consequences.

Superb. Chilling and dripping with tension. Your characters are authentic and believable and the story compelling. I found myself wishing there was more to read. If anything, You start at a flying pace. If anything I think you give away a little too much at the beginning - but that's not desperately... view book

Hi Kim This a great story and brilliantly written. I liked the pace and characterisation, and the sense of place is superb, especially your descriptions of Sam's developing ESPs. I would like to see a little more tension earlier on, but that's just my preference as the story is easily good enough... view book

I loved the premise of this story. I was hoping for dark brooding evil - some seriously frightening horror - but I'm afraid I found the writing and the language too light. What I got was more of Bill and Ted's Excellent Fallen Angels F.O.F.A.??? - it doesn't work for me. Satan's lieutenants come ove... view book

Thank you for some beautiful writing and imagery. Your writing is exquisite. It's like a painting like an old master, every brush stroke - in your case, every word - is rendered withan eye to perfection. What it lacks for me is the pace and tension it needs in order to grip me as a reader. I read th... view book

I wasn't so keen on your premise - I would normally keep well clear of anything involving the royals - but the story pulled me in. I think your style is a little inconsistent - in parts its sparse and pacy, which I liked, in others it's over-descriptive, which slows it down. I didn't find the two bo... view book
