Off To See The Wild West Show ....

Frank Beill

Victorian Hull is no place for a mixed race orphan. Escape comes in the form of a Lakota Sioux family and Buffalo Bill.

In 1886 the Wild West went east when Buffalo Bill toured England for the first time. A new member is hiding among the cast embarking from Hull to return to the United States: Sammy, a mixed race orphan, who has been adopted by a Lakota Sioux family. He clings to the desperate hope that his Indian father did not drown off the American coast but went to live with Native Americans.

During Buffalo Bill’s final tour of Great Britain in 1904 the adult Sammy returns to Hull in order to find his younger sister and the friends, the Smith twins, who protected him from racist bullying in the orphanage. However, he does not receive the welcome he hoped for - he remains an outsider in an all white community.

Many of the major characters in this story were real people and many of the events depicted really happened.
