about me

My first book, Dragon Bones, is now available 'at all good bookstores' and half the royalties will go to Bhutanese aid organisations.

I was actually approached by a publisher who saw it on Authonomy. I thank everyone who shelved Dragon Bones and who had confidence it would sell.

I'm currently finishing up my thesis for my Masters of Applied Anthropology, but later this year I hope to work on a book about the experience of being an exchange student.

Claire, Your writing is very tight. I'm drawn in despite this not being my usual genre. Too often these days I read works self-published or put forward for publication that have me picking them apart as I read. It's always pleasant to be able to relax back into the story as I could with Inevitab... view book

You've hooked me by the end of chapter 2. A couple of typos in that chapter: - 'a high-pitched woman said' --> a woman said in a high-pitched voice - 'left your husband for that another man' --> 'that' or 'another' but not both view book

Colin, You write smoothly and your dialogue seems natural, but I think you can do better than starting off with boredom. Your witicisms aren't enough to stop me getting bored myself. You might grab my attention if you start off with John's arrival and show Terry's dissatisfaction with his life in... view book

I've been browsing this while travelling so I haven't been taking enough notes to point out weaknesses, but then not remembering any is a good sign. The characters are interesting and the world intriguing if a little simplistic at first glance in its binary nature. It reminds me of Trudy Canavan, ... view book

This is a weird mix of brilliant and mundane. I love lines like "There's something about a full moon that brings out the wolf in a man" that both comment on the character and foreshadow coming events. On the other hand, there seems to be too much exposition, even if it is hidden in dialogue. I ... view book
