The Trouble With Being God

William F. Aicher

The biggest crime in life is not understanding who you are. If David Fincher's 'Seven' were an art film or Nick Hornby wrote a thriller.

Steven Carvelle is a journalist and a self-diagnosed alcoholic. Lately his dreams have been taking a turn for the worse, and the violence that was once only in his mind has begun to manifest in the world around him.

When a series of murders overflows into the lives of Steven, his girlfriend, Karen, and best friend Miles (a detective on the local police force), Steven is forced to dive further into his mind and the realm of self-awareness than ever before. Questioning not only society and religion, but even his own sanity, he must decide what is real, what is not, and how everything in his life has intertwined to lead him to now.

Then he is required to make a decision.

----
At its heart, a tale about what happens to these characters while these events unfold around them. Most of all it's about understanding and coming to grips with who you are, and the frightful and dangerous consequences of thinking you are someone you are not.

just wanted to respond to 4DPrefect and PeteM's comments (as well as add a footnote to my own). Regardless of the quality (of which this book ranks quite high), just the way in which it is told is pure gold. If you worked with a great cover artist and had a publisher who was willing to pony up t... view book

I'm not going to say much, but I'll say this: This book will be published, or else you're going to have a pretty awesome off-broadway play. Either way, I'm there. It's like a fucked up Disney world animatronic show. I love it. view book

Only read about half of the first chapter, but frankly got a bit bored. There's something stilted about your writing style that just isn't working for me. I think it's the overuse of sentence fragments, as well as a tendency to write in a passive voice. Take my feedback for what you will - hope it... view book

Back and read some as promised. It's good, but you can definitely tell you are British. Not that that's a bad thing, but I just noticed it when reading. No idea if that makes much of a difference for international audiences tho, especially given the Harry Potter successes. Much smarter than I expect... view book

Love it. Only read a little bit, but forced myself to stop as since this is published I would much rather read it in actual book form (or on Kindle!). I am being very selective with my backing currently, so you're currently one of the only three books I'm backing on the site at the time. Well done ... view book
