about me

I am a former goat herder, but have since moved on to greener pastures. I still enjoy hanging out with goats and meditating on the nature of reality, cognitive and otherwise. I also enjoy playing the African hand drums in a pastoral setting. You would be amazed how many goats will stop and look at you while they chew if you provide some sort of entertainment. I'm totally stoked about the recent possibility of a unified field theory: I've had a real problem with the space/time continuum for some while now. I'm a poet with a thing for belly buttons, and a philosopher whose turn-offs include fuzzy logic. The most interesting job I ever turned down was as a captain on the Jungle Cruise at Disney Land. Though I did not accept that nautical post, I have wondered many times since if the seafaring life would not have suited me better than that of a penniless poet. My favorite writers are CS Lewis, H. Hesse, V. Nabokov, H. Jacobs, D. Quinn, B. Byars, and H. Zinn. I am happy to swap reads and look forward to making new friends and flirting relentlessly to pass the time. lol I return all reads and comments as quickly as I can except on Wed. and Sun. when the library here is closed. Cheers.

p.s. I'm not interested in typos. I kno they are thre and that thre ar meny of thm. lol I'm interested only
in detailed, critically-minded feedback regarding the structure of the narrative: comments regarding where the narrative breaks down, or is confusing and so forth. Though not all of it is posted here, my manucript is complete at 450 double spaced pages. Anyway... ttyl

The Age of Rhinestone

blue boy

I love reluctant heroes—this work of satire woven into a dramatic backdrop gives two such characters center stage.

The Age of Rhinestone creates a world of immense suffering. After the worldwide stock market crash of 2020, the world is cast into political, social, and economic ruin, and a global dark age emerges. After 140 years of depression and war some people have found solace in the lyrics of old songs, and an Elvis cult has formed. This novel is a character sketch of the psychology of religion, but was written so that it can be enjoyed by anyone who appreciates a good read with a strong, narrative voice. It would do well if marketed to universities with a strong religious studies department, but should be able to cross over to mainstream readers easily.

RANSOM's fiancée, Lily, has left him at the altar and joined the Elvists. He infiltrates their temple only to discover catholic assassins are coming to kill Ray, the cult’s leader. To get Lily out before the assassins arrive, Ransom grudgingly agrees to get Ray out also. When Lily is abducted Ransom and Ray must work together to rescue her, and a journey unlooked for begins. The interaction between Ransom and Ray, as Ransom becomes Ray’s unenthusiastic pupil, forms the basis of this character-driven plot.

Sorry, I'm not on here very much these days. My book got up to 160 then stopped and after a few months began to sink back down. Once you get so high in the ranks you have to almost live on this site to compete with the people who trade backings, and it got to a point where it was just not worth the... view book

you have a strong voice. don't overload your sentences. let the story flow naturally. there are three things important to a story: flow, flow and the details. flow is everything. well done so far. your voice kept me reading. bb view book
