about me

I am a freelance writer based in York, England. Currently I regularly write for several publications including Skin Deep tattoo magazine, PANDKG magazine and A Young Persons Guide to the Universe. I also contribute to other magazines and music sites. I have had the good fortune to interview many major names including Dan Mathews (Vice President of PETA) and Steve Forrest (Placebo).

I also write dark, slightly disturbing, thought-provoking short stories, that focus on the subculture and undercurrent hidden in daily life. My themes touch on modern life’s deviant sexual and violent nature. As one reviewer commented, “this writing could only be created in the mind of the love child of Chuck Palahniuk and Hunter S. Thompson”.

A collection of my short stories, From The Lodge to the City, was indie published on the 1st June 2011 and is available to buy from Amazon. Digital copies (Kindle, Book Nook, Sony, Apple) are also available from Smashwords.

Please note, I have a very very specific genre of books I like to read - think Chuck Palahniuk!! I get distracted and bored very easily so unless your book is going to do my head in with the first chapter, I will not finish the book. That's just the way the thunder rumbles!

From the Lodge to the City

Trent Aitken-Smith

From The Lodge To The City is a collection of seven short stories that will leave you dazed, shocked and breathless but ultimately, wanting more

From the opening story, of a boy’s struggle to claim back the life torn from him as a child, through tales of violence, anger and redemption, finally culminating in a love story born of abuse and violence – From The Lodge To The City will have you mesmerized. “This is bare bones, balls to the wall writing. In your face. Even brutal and raw sometimes. Fast and to the point, wasting no time on long descriptions or excess prose. The beauty of the short story is that when Trent has you up against the ropes and you’re about to get knocked out the bell goes and you can go another round. A good read, an intense read.”

Banging (excuse the pun) opening scene. Love it when a story opens right in the middle of some action, without pissing about setting the scene etc. I like to be thrown straight into the storm and yours does just that. How do you not read more with chapters 1 and 2 grabbing you by the testes and drag... view book

Hi Andy I really thought I had commented on your book already but it seems I hadn't. I am still getting to grips with this whole Authonomy thing. Anyway, I read first and tenth chapter (as suggested) and I have to say I love it all. Going to go back to the beginning and read it the whole way thro... view book

Peter I only read your book because of the post in the forums saying it was, 'a load of puerile shit'. And I am really happy I did! I really really enjoyed the first chapter and aim to read more. I love your writing style, very funny without being absurdly over the top. Can't put my finger on wha... view book

Hi Jennie Though you write really well, I couldn't get into the story at all. This is not the kind of stuff I usually read so it didn't keep me hooked. But as I say, my reading preferences aside, I think you write very well and I am sure (as your ranking proves) that there will be many people out... view book

This is an amazing story and even more so as English is not your first language. I would be surprised if you could not find a publisher interested in this book and am wondering why you are on here trying to get to the editor's desk when you should just send it out to agents and publishers themselves... view book
