about me

Let's get the boring bits out of the way first, shall we? I'm a retired widower, living in a pleasantly scruffy suburb of Nottingham. Educational achievements? Very little to report. Life experiences? Many and varied. Regrets? A few but I don't do hindsight.
So, why have I joined Authonomy? From childhood,I have been writing stories in my head. An over academic teacher ruined my attempted appreciation of English Literature but I loved reading. Adventure, Crime, Biography, they were my favourites. I also loved Film and had a vivid imagination so I suppose it was inevitable that at some stage I would begin writing. I'm just not sure why it took so long to get started. I self published memoirs of my first twenty years and was somewhat flattered by the favourable comments (That's on my writing skills, not my opinions of life and it's participants). Writing the story that had been floating around in my head for ages suddenly seemed a realistic project and so I did just that .Change of Circumstance is the result. I hope you enjoy it. The favourable comments that I have already received on Authonomy have encouraged me to move ahead with the sequel, which takes the main characters forward three years.
I have also had great fun, reading from many of the excellent books on this site. It is a great place both to learn and enjoy.
APRIL 10th 2011

After an unavoidable delay, I have today uploaded the next part of Change of Circumstance, onto Authonomy. It's not the end of the story yet but things are starting to get tense for Matt and Sandra. I hope you enjoy this next episode. Backing, if you think the book deserves it, would be much appreciated

I am a huge admirer of Ian Rankin and John Grisham and have just discovered R J Ellory. I've also been impressed by the Scandinavian authors Henning Mankell and Stieg Larssen. However, I have to say that , recently at least, my biggest influence has been Collins Dictionary and Thesaurus, without which my own writing would be largely monosyllabic.

Change of Circumstance

Carlstrom Horton

A country lane.A crashed car, the driver dead.On the seat a fortune in used bank notes.Would you have done what Matt Hargreaves did?

The reactionof Matt Hargreaves to finding a crashed car, the driver dead behind the wheel, a fortune in used bank notes in the back , was instinctive. He didn't know that it was the proceeds of a bank robbery. For him and feisty wife Sandra, the consequences of his action began a journey that they hoped would take them to the end of some magical rainbow.
Others thought differently and it was not only the police who were looking for the stolen loot.

"Change of Circumstance" is a fast paced adventure about an ordinary young couple thrust into a dangerous, nerve wracking world of intrigue, violence and above all greed. There are no real heroes but many villains, some of whom come to an untimely end. Others just end up behind bars. Catching the bank robbers proves comparatively easy for DI Danny Moorcroft. Finding the cash and who took it from the getaway car proves a much tougher proposition.
A previous chance encounter, with local gangster Skinner, is Matt and Sandra's only link with the criminal world and they have no desire to renew acquaintances. But who else can help them fulfill their dream?

Hi Rick, This is my first effort as a member of the BH Group. I should explain that my appreciation of any book from an academic viewpoint is extremely limited. I read for enjoyment, stimulation and excitement. I am a very visual reader in the sense that i need to have a strong image of each charac... view book

Hi Michael, just read the first four chapters and I think it's a good beginning.Acceptable levels of violence in the first two chapters and the sex scenes are not overplayed. I like the way you slow down the pace as the action moves to England. It will have to bide it's time on the Watch List for a s... view book

Hi John, Me again. I've just read many of the comments on Street Smart Dating and was slightly concerned to find that they were nearly all written by women. 'Hi John, Thanks for your message. I have just read the first 6 chapters of Street Smart Dating and can honestly say that it is the first book that I have read on here that has made me laugh out loud.
