about me

I was born in Canada in 1972, took a degree in General Humanities from the University of Calgary, and immediately left for Europe. I made London my first home then went on to live in Paris and Barcelona. During that time I married a girl I met in a Paris café, returned to Canada, got divorced, absconded back to Spain where I met my lovely second wife. Now I'm living in Edinburgh.

'In Union Swift Rupture' is book one of a completed trilogy. I'm currently looking for an agent/publisher and can be contacted at jjhopejohnstone@yahoo.com

A Rush to Outward Collapse - B....

Jared Hope-Johnstone

Caught in a cosmic strife of opposites, four characters forge a new future in their struggle for survival.

Future generations would tell you the forces of attraction and repulsion rule the universe. But which is stronger? Take time to think it over. Your answer will decide the fate of the world.

'A Rush to Outward Collapse' is the story of a ring-match whose origins stretch to the beginning of time. One side sees Expansion, the force of outward thrust. On the other stands Contraction, the great binding power. The world we live in springs from their blows.

Year 2241 witnesses the worst calamity in over a century. The key perpetrators go uncaught. A hated figure rockets to his next scene of carnage. The black Orb behind him orchestrates a new maelstrom. Drastic acts precipitate the downfall of world order.

The power of a supernova seems to fall into the hands of a political faction. Yet, the Expansionists can't control it or foresee where it will take them. Jupiter is said to be coming with a storm at its back.

To withstand, Contraction becomes more robust. A new Eden promises to make life thicker, weightier through genetic amalgamation.

Attraction and repulsion war perpetual. Each fortifies itself to strike the other harder. Those caught between are torn apart.

The story of four lives upended by the rise of two radical world philosophies and their violent impact on humanity.

What is the most important thing in the universe? The peoples of the future think they know. They’d tell you the forces of attraction and repulsion rule everywhere and there’s no higher truth. But which force is stronger? Think hard before you answer. Getting it wrong might get you killed.

'In Union Swift Rupture' is book one of a trilogy that details the rise of two radical philosophies and their violent impact on the world of the future. It is the tale of a strife of opposites, of Expansion versus Contraction, and how this strife is understood to affect everything in existence.

New Civilization, glittering and rich, has known nothing but peace for over a century. An inexplicable act of vandalism evokes a strange fear. The levelling of a small forest in Switzerland is the first tremor of the upheavals to come.

Seen through the eyes of four characters, these early rumblings become proof of a new destructiveness let loose on the world. First to fall victim is Lincoln de Guise, World Government official. Clues into the vandalism lead him to the home of a villain. He finds furious Dark Energy waiting instead...

You have a poetic, almost impressionist feel to your scenes. Within that backdrop, your characters (based on Ch 1 & 2) still come across as tangible and are perhaps all the more vivid for it. You’re able to make your narrator sympathetic early on. I was keen to know more about his history (relati... view book

An emotive and energized start. Nicely descriptive. Tension is created quite quickly with the man's threat of violence, which keeps the reader hooked. Backed! Jared view book
