about me

I was born on 17th September 1986 in Devon, England. Both my parents were creative, my mum would sew odd socks together and make bags and turn broken kettles into sculptures. We didn’t have much money so mum would make me things. She built a dolls house from scratch for my fourth birthday and even made the people and the furniture for it. We would even go for walks and collect acorn cups for miniature bowls!
Dad was always trying to come up with ideas which he hoped would make us rich. These ideas included designing board games, phone holsters and poop scoops for dog owners! He also loves to write and has folders everywhere containing scripts and novels he’s written over the years.
Having creative parents influenced me a lot and as a toddler I would draw all the time, filling pages of paper with wax crayons, which my Great Grandma would sellotape proudly to the walls of her bedroom. I remember when I was three years old and too young to write, I thought up a story and drew all the pictures for it and got my dad to write the words so I guess that was my first book.
When I was nine, my family moved to the Isle of Wight and by the age of eleven I was buying A4 note pads and filling them with stories. Since then I’ve been trying to get my work published.
I didn’t enjoy High School and took refuge in both creative writing and art. I love how there are no right or wrong answers in these subjects, the freedom that it gave me and how you can escape reality.
Since school, I have studied at Plymouth Art College and had various jobs which have included teaching art to adults with learning difficulties and working as the Head of Pottery in a Summer Camp in West Virginia, which I really loved.
In April, I set up a business called “Laughs and Crafts,” which aims to promote fun and non competitive art to young people. I work alongside my fiancés brother in law and we run mural and painting projects as well as school newspaper and magazine clubs for children on the island. I also do pencil portraits for people on request.

I would love to see my work published, each time I write something, it’s better than the last and I don’t think I could ever stop trying. I have a poem published in a book called Poetic Fantasy and also some illustrations in a self help book that my dad had published.

The Library of Living

Jessica Jade Burton

When teenager Ben Bailey dies, he finds himself in an old library, in which the books detail his choices for reincarnation.

The Library of Living is about fourteen-year-old Ben Bailey, who is tragically killed by a taxi.
He wakes up in an old library that is full of books which detail the people and animals he can return to Earth as.
However, all he cares about is whether or not he will be able to see Anna Lawson again, his childhood companion and sweetheart.
The story takes the reader through the lives of Ben and Anna, how they met and became best friends.
Whilst Ben is getting to grips with the contents of the library and three spirits he meets there, Anna has to come to terms with her life now and a future without Ben.

Hi Debbie, This is really unique, and the writing flows really nicely. I love the characterization of Matt, and it's really clever how you write in a Scottish accent at the beginning. Six well deserved stars :-D view book

Hi Joe, Rupee Millionaires is beautifully written, and very gripping right from the start. I can relate to being scared to cross the road -the driving over there is crazy. Good Luck with getting published - let me know when it is so that I can buy a copy. 6 stars from me. Jess :-D view book
