about me

I stand by my opinions whether you agree with them or not. I stand by my friends whether you like them or not. I'll tell you honestly what I think of your work, so if you can't take it without thinking I'm insulting you personally, don't ask. You'll find I'm extremely loyal and like people until they do something to make me change my mind; if you've never done anything to piss me off, I like you, and anything you think I have done to insult you is a misunderstanding born of the stupidity of internet communication. I hate trolls. If you a troll you are the exception to this rule.

I'm an archaeologist and part-time lecturer at the University of Wales Bangor, currently in the middle of studying for my PhD. My research areas are Iron Age archaeology, Gender studies, Mythology, and the material culture, social, religious and ritual aspects of Death, both past and present.
I'm an avid fan of Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Crime both in literature, television and film. I also have a love of art and (obviously) writing.

Chasing Azrael

Hazel Butler

Ande’s life is plagued by an obsession with Death, she's accustomed to him. But she's about to discover Azrael is not his most malevolent servant.

Two years after her husband's suicide, Ande is struggling to come to terms with his death. Her unique ability to communicate with the dead is hindering her recovery – she literally cannot let him go. When her friend Josh ends his relationship with the beautiful but capricious Natalya, he is forced to take refuge at Ande’s house. Avoiding Natalya only causes more trouble however, as she beocmes increasingly violent.

Struggling to deal with her growing feelings for Josh, Ande is propelled into the middle of a horrific chain of events. As the bodies of several women appear, each displayed in an increasingly macabre manner, Ande is horrified to realise that their deaths are somehow related to her and that she, as well as her friends, are in danger.

Hiya hun, I've read the first two chapters and I like it so far. I have to say, I don't usually comment on children's books as I don't read them and have no standard to compare them to. That said, if I were still I child, I'd love this story! (Honestly I kinda love it a bit now lol) It's a wonder... view book

Hiya hun, Had a look like you asked, although I have to say I've not read past chapter 1 (which is labled chpt 3 for some reason). A few things to bear in mind before you read my comments. First and foremost, I don't really read YA books; they annoy me. Second, the moment I read your pitch, I did... view book

Oh my god! How have I not looked at this yet? I love it! (well so far at least, only read two chapters). I adore sci-fi, currently working on a few bits of my own. Starred and backed my friend x view book

Now, please feel free to ignore me, I haven't actually read the book yet - although I did WL it, it really isn't my sort of thing and I don't know if I'll get round to looking at it - however the title caught my eye. I hope you don't mind my asking, but why have you chosen that title? I ask, not as ... view book
