about me

Ex motoring journalist turned novelist, 34, from Hertfordshire. I work shifts and fit writing in between (along with a love of Formula One, and my new-found fascination for maintaining a healthy garden lawn). The Nemesis Countdown is my first book, but its sequel is in progress, currently competing for attention with several others I will get to eventually.

I am in search of an agent and/or publisher to build a long-term writing career with.

alastair.gunn@ntlworld.com

At school I spent (too) many evenings creating my own comics (Transformers mostly), before progressing as a teenager onto stories based on my favourite computer games. Then my love of cars led to an attempt to be the next big thing in motor journalism, although the restricted word counts of magazine writing soon frustrated. So here I am writing novels and feeling like I’ve found my place.

When I do have time to read other people's writing on this site, I always try to give honest feedback (which may not always be appreciated, but will be aimed at helping others to improve their work).

favourite books

Among many others I enjoy reading Steven King, Steve Mosby, Mark Billingham, John Grisham, and Stephen Baxter.

The Nemesis Countdown

Alastair Gunn

There’s a fine line between justice and revenge…

London is in a state of panic. A psychopath known as the Sunday Killer has just claimed his third, apparently random, victim.

DCI Antonia Hawkins soon finds herself in charge of her first high-profile homicide investigation. But the killer hasn’t left a single clue at any of the murder scenes. No prints, no DNA... no trace.

Public anxiety flares when the Sunday Killer contacts the media, promising further deaths. And as the police move nearer to apprehending him, the stakes are raised when Hawkins and her team become his prime targets.

Protect the public; or protect herself and her team? She doesn’t know it yet, but in fourteen days time, Hawkins will come face to face with the killer, and by then the decision may be out of her hands. The countdown has begun…

Book is complete. Section uploaded here recently updated to include chapters 1 - 5.

Hi Russell I came across your book on the Authonomy website, and was intrigued by your blurb. I think you have an interesting concept for a story here, but it looks like you haven’t been around for a while. I hope you haven’t given up. I thought I’d send you some feedback anyway. I read the o... view book

Hi Barry I knew by the second paragraph why you occupy the top branch of the Authonomy tree. I don’t generally read books like yours, but great writing entertains regardless of its subject, and yours definitely fits that description. I am itching to read on. Your protagonist forms rapidly in the ... view book

Hi Missy Thanks for your very positive feedback. I always try to return the favour, so I had a read of your book, too. Judging from the numerous responses, there aren't many superlatives left, but I was similarly impressed. I backed your book and left a comment, too. I will be uploading more ... view book
