about me

I am not offering reviews at this time as my paid-editing schedule has my "book-related" time pretty much packed through November.

With Love to Kate

Rebecca Hamilton

ROUGH DRAFT. SEEKING STORY LEVEL/CHARACTER LEVEL COMMENTS ONLY (FOR NOW).

Kate has never said a word in her life. She's communicated through strange signs and a variety of sighs that only her father, George, has ever learned to translate. When she begins speaking, those around her are given a window into her heart--and a window into their own hearts as well.

Her mother, Margaret, wants to push the normalcy. She's so blind to Kate's special gifts that she becomes a stressor in her daughter’s life. The bad chemistry between them leaves Margaret wanting Kate institutionalized.

She says she wants Kate gone, and George agrees. He leaves Margaret, bringing Kate with him. Now he doesn’t trust anyone to love Kate the way she deserves to be loved. When Thomas comes along, madly in love with Kate, George stands in the way.

Kate only wants to be understood, but understanding is not something anyone in her life can offer. In knowing her, though, they come to understand themselves, and to understand the true meaning of love.

Sometimes, change can take a lifetime. From early childhood, to marriage and parenthood, and into her elderly years, Kate leaves her imprint on those around her.

I get a good sense of Karen's personality early on. I read a page along with the synopsis to get an idea of the writing quality, as you asked. In terms of what can be done to improve, I immediatly spotted a few things. *Deepening POV *Tightening where voice will not be lost (ie, reducing redundan... view book

I have to say, that name: Lindanmadanularien --it's a bit much for me. As is Handolarienkyril. Both enough so to put me off from reading a story normally. It was hard to keep track of who was speaking in the opening sequence. It helped when you shorted the names but at first I couldn't tell how man... view book

I love the ambiance and setting of the opening. I will say that sometimes Jenny's voice and the narrator's voice clash a bit too much for me. You have these literary type descriptions, but then the dialogue and thoughts feel different. (to be honest, I prefer Jenny's voice to the narrators I'd also,... view book
