Ex-ballerina falls unwittingly in love with abrasive but hunky Lieutenant. Family, friends and a fiance get in the way. Will love conquer all?
Thirty-one year old Marion Marsh has infuriated everyone in her family by refusing to open the ballet school they all expected her to launch but instead keeps going from one dead-end job to another. Even usually devoted ex-boyfriend Ian wonders what she's doing when she joins Griff William's family gardening business. Marion, according to her mother, should 'act her age'. Finally, if she can't think of anything better to do then she should 'settle down and find a good man.'
Griff's team take on a huge project at the home of wealthy Lieutenant Nick Powell who is due to marry Cynthia Graham - snobby daughter from the Graham sticky-tape dynasty. As Marion and Nick are plunged into contact with each other they find themselves unwillingly attracted. Nick's eight year old daughter, Alice, recognises Marion as the true champion of her father's heart - but Cynthia has other plans.
While Marion fights off amorous attention from drunken banker Rupert; sits for pathologically jealous sister Bernadette's portrait and dances with transvestites in support of Gay church marriages the Lieutenant tries to impose good sense over passion.
Will love conquer all? Romantic comedy with some dark insights into the ballet world.
