Marion

Madeleine Kear

Ex-ballerina falls unwittingly in love with abrasive but hunky Lieutenant. Family, friends and a fiance get in the way. Will love conquer all?

Thirty-one year old Marion Marsh has infuriated everyone in her family by refusing to open the ballet school they all expected her to launch but instead keeps going from one dead-end job to another. Even usually devoted ex-boyfriend Ian wonders what she's doing when she joins Griff William's family gardening business. Marion, according to her mother, should 'act her age'. Finally, if she can't think of anything better to do then she should 'settle down and find a good man.'

Griff's team take on a huge project at the home of wealthy Lieutenant Nick Powell who is due to marry Cynthia Graham - snobby daughter from the Graham sticky-tape dynasty. As Marion and Nick are plunged into contact with each other they find themselves unwillingly attracted. Nick's eight year old daughter, Alice, recognises Marion as the true champion of her father's heart - but Cynthia has other plans.

While Marion fights off amorous attention from drunken banker Rupert; sits for pathologically jealous sister Bernadette's portrait and dances with transvestites in support of Gay church marriages the Lieutenant tries to impose good sense over passion.

Will love conquer all? Romantic comedy with some dark insights into the ballet world.

Forty-two year old Fleur Armitage has moved from England to France and managed to lose herself along the way. Will she find herself again?

Forty-two year old Fleur Armitage has unwillingly relocated to rural France with her husband Mark and three adolescent children. Their hopes of seeking a better life for the family soon crumble as the impact of their deplacement takes its toll. As their fifth winter sets in depression engulfs Fleur leaving her loved ones emotionally abandoned. Twelve year old Alex takes refuge in his violent cartoons while sixrteen year old Allegra isolates herself from the family. Its thirteen year old Emma, however, who strays away the furthest by falling into an unsuitable relationship with an older man. A reclusive artist takes up residence in a nearby abandoned house which Fleur is strangely drawn to. A chance meeting turns into a friendship which deepens into love and Fleur repairs her fractured self under his healing gaze. But as she recovers she finds too much damage has already been done and the family as she knows it is torn apart. A tale of domestic drama set in France where it is not always sunny but can often be dark.

Hi Rennie, I saw you put Marion on your shelf which was kind of you as she's not on many peoples shelves! So I thought I'd have a look at your book which I have placed on my shelf. I think the ideas great - really imaginative and plausible which gives it a particular suspense. So much 'end of the... view book

Hi Nicole - I've placed your book on my shelf and have read the opening chapters which I enjoyed. It's a really fascinating idea you've created and I love the archaic Shakespearean touches mixed with a modern world. It's not usually the kind of book I'd go for but I think your writing is polished an... view book

Hi Michael. I've just read the opening chapter of your story and enjoyed it. I think you write well and have constructed a piece with good suspense. My only criticism is I'd avoid sexual cliches - how much more interesting (especially for your female readership) if you tone down Lisa's sexual stere... view book
