about me

Hello Authonomists,
I am a freelance copywriter/editor/proofreader who, like pretty much everyone on Authonomy, really wants to be a full time author.
I joined this site way back when it began and used it a lot but have since had two children so have not had a lot of time for Authonomising.
I have, however, been working on my book 'Writing the Town Read' whenever I have had the chance (not often) and am now editing it once again... I have told myself this is THE LAST TIME as I have another idea brewing in my mind but I really want to get this first book 'right'.
Although it's a complete book, I have removed a great deal of it from here for the time being, until it is ready to be viewed again.
What you read here is the older version but as this is what I am working through at the moment, any comments will be extremely helpful.
However, I know it's a case of reciprocation on Authonomy and I can't promise when I will be able to return reads.
If you fancy having a sneaky peek at my book then that would be great and all comments will be gratefully received. I shall be back with updated chapters as soon as I have the chance.
Looking forward to hearing from you...
Kath

Writing the Town Read

Katharine Smith

Aspiring journalist Jamie Calder is stunned by a series of events which leave her questioning everything and everyone in her previously quiet, settled life.

Jamie Calder has returned home to Cornwall to be with her family and friends, and to take up a job on the local paper. Finally happy at work, despite her sexist boss, when her boyfriend Dave moves in with her, the picture seems complete. Jamie feels free to concentrate on building her career in journalism. She hopes through her hard work and dedication she may be able to change the face of 'local news' and perhaps also help her townfolk look at things a little differently.

Nobody could have anticipated the events of July 2005, which bring extreme highs and lows to the United Kingdom, and mark the start of a series of unwanted shocks for Jamie, which turn her life inside out, beginning with Dave's disappearance.

Writing the Town Read tells the story of this unsettling time in Jamie's life, the effect it has on her relationships and her view of the world, and her struggles to make sense of and overcome the challenges which she faces.

Hi Kat, Well I have started to read Hens from Hell - and it is extremely readable, and Abigail's voice extremely real. I have to admit I don't read chick lit as a rule, but this already has a different kind of flavour to it from other chick lit I've read. More down to earth and open about how gir... view book

Hi Stephen, Well better late than never, I hope. I'm sorry I've not got here to read you before, but have just enjoyed the first two chapters of The Spirit Within and will be back to read the rest of what you've posted soon. I like the way that the book is heading, so far full of events in just ... view book

Hi Dan, I said I’d make it here and I’m glad I did – particularly given today’s date as I shall be putting you on my shelf and I hope it helps. In honesty at the very beginning of chapter one I thought I was not going to enjoy this – I worried about the characters being pretentious arty types but w... view book

Hi Nicky, Well I have finally got here! Although sadly only down to the end of chapter one, as I need to go and get some dinner. However there's plenty in chapter one to give me a good taste of the book and I am very happy to say I think it's gerat (I was worried after you'd been so kind about mine... view book

The bit about selfishness etc. feels too much like preaching and stops me. In fact it makes me cross. I once hit something at a low speed on a dark country lane. I did everything I could to avoid it, but because I'd just come round a corner I couldn't help it. I stopped, but whatever it ... view book
