about me

I return reads and I am not tetchy about being reminded, but please, if you want to swap - you first!

I'm a UK surgeon working in Middlesbrough
(The Great North East).

When I'm not cutting I am writing, jogging or trekking, sometimes cooking.

My first published novel - a WW2 thriller called: 'THE CYCLIST' is now available from Amazon, from Fingerpress (publisher's site), Waterstones locally and online, Book depository, WHSmith online etc.

The Cyclist has sold more than 2000 copies (if you include Kindle sales).

The publisher has also agreed to publish the second book, which will reach book shops by Spring next year and the third, 'Francesca Pascal' will be out later. All of them have been on here and owe whatever sparkle they have to the tremendous support of Authonomites past and present! Thank you guys/gals!

I have two Roman historical trilogies, the first part of one was displayed here, reaching 27 at one time. That first book reached number 7 in the Yeovil Literary prize [2011] and was highly commended. It has also been professionally edited.
Those books are complete and VERY much in need of an agent / publisher.

I don't like a lot of purple prose descriptions - mainly narrative prose, action and dialogue.

I'm married to a wonderful woman who is a psychologist. I have three sons (all doctors) and a 14-year-old daughter who became a published poet long before I ever got published! (Grrrrr)

I am a full time UK Brian surgeon (I only operate on people called Brian).

Why am I on this site?
Just interested in anyone's feedback, and happy to comment on other's work, if they find it helpful.

The purpose of a book is to entertain, so If you enjoy the one that's up, let me know.

Maybe my stuff is worth a read?

Go on, try it!

The Fat Chef - A French War Dr....

Fredrik Nath

1940: Raoul, the fat, hotel head chef of 'Le Meurice' fights back, in occupied Paris, in the only way he can.

1940, Paris falls to the occupying Germans. Raoul, fat Head Chef of Le Meurice, the top hotel of Paris, is nonchalant. He is content to wait for Pétain to make peace and for everything to return to normal. He wants to get on with life and admire his scullery-maid, Natalie with unrequited love.

When the Germans begin to cut out the Jewish staff and finally threaten Natalie, he realises he can no longer ignore what is happening
.
Hauptmann Schiller, the SD officer who has taken over the hotel, insists upon more German food, and Raoul acquiesces as he hides Jewish members of staff in any nook or cranny he can find in the hotel. In the end, even the wine cellar is occupied by refugees
.
On the night of a big German military banquet, Schiller hints he knows Raoul’s secret. He seems to know where Natalie hides. He describes what he will do to her.

It is then Raoul has to act and he discovers he has more resources than his bechamel sauce.

Very strange, didn't register my comment! So here we have a new and cataclysmicaly different view of the Bibble or was it bubble! Irreverend quirky and fun. Well-written and easy to read. This will go down well with some, anger others. Are you sure you know what you're doing in that respect? S... view book

Well, not my kind of read, but it reminded me of Richard Adams, the charming anthopomorphism, the characters of the loons, the descriptive prose that is well-written and clear. I like this very much. You write very well. I've no nit-picKs about the writing at all. Flows well and has all the right... view book

Hi, I think this is very true to the pitch. it reads like an account of narrative, not a literary journey. It is full of action, described and promised. The style as someone else said is more journalistic than descriptive. It reads well thoug, fluent and pacy. I know a lot of guys will like th... view book

This is very professional writing. Hard to nit pick. The fonts need sorting. Otherwise, I enjoyed your first chapter very much. The descriptive prose, though sparse is effective and the narrative prose excellent. No problems in the dialogue either. Highly starred and backed. view book

Stunning. A little more attention to punctuation, but an excellent piece of writing. The theme of the story is really good. Worth backing! view book
