about me

I am a mother of two who is finally getting a chance to write what's been in my head for years. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and studied literature and folklore. After college I spent 12 years working in corporate training and instruction design. That means I've written countless training manuals and product demonstration scripts none of which I have the rights to.

My first love, however is fiction. So now in between making dinner, doing laundry and getting snacks, I get to tell stories.

I am not chasing the ED desk, but I appreciate all feedback.

I don't spam and won't respond to spam.

Once and Future

M. R. Stoddard

Legend tells us that Arthur is the "once and future" king. What if that future was now?

The first book of the Kingmaker Series.

Raised by her Scottish Grandmother in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sarah MacAlpin grew up with one foot in the old world and one foot in the new world. She's worked hard to get to where she is and at 25 she's got her life planned out, that is until she meets Dermot Sinclair.

Plagued by nightmares of a tragic past and murky visions of the future Sarah pushes on toward finishing her dissertation. In spite of her hard work and planning the world around her seems to be spinning out of control. Her relationships with her boyfriend and her best friend are falling apart and the new guy in town seems to be dogging her every step. To top it off there's a killer stalking women on campus that all seem to match her description. Can Sarah be next?

Of Sound and Sea

Meredith R Stoddard

Pirates, squatters and star crossed lovers populate this series of short stories inspired by the history and folklore of the southern North Carolina coast.

What better beach read is there than one about the history of the beach?

For nearly four hundred years a unique and resilient people have inhabited the coast of North Carolina and left a rich history both written and oral. Before the coast became a summer playground, it was full of fisherman and merchants and hard working people who built the state that we know today. The stories in Fishtown are inspired by their history. Some are based on fact and some on legend, but all are compelling.

Thanks for your read and comments. I have not read the Robert Louis Stevenson story, although Israel Hands, who was an actual person on Blackbeard's crew, also appears in Treasure Island. I stayed away from those because I didn't want to be clouded by anyone else's portrayal of him. T... view book

Thanks so much for having a look. I am a Robert Burns fan, and the story of Charles and Nancy just fits that song perfectly. As for the title, I'm not married to it. Fishtown is the English translation of the name used by Native Americans for their village on the site of what is now Beaufort, NC... view book

Thanks for the support. Sorry for the suspense. It's not all up here for a couple of reasons: 1) It's not finished. 2) I will publish it eventually and don't want to give away the ending. I will definitely let you know when it's available. Thanks again, Meredith view book

I've finished it. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and the characters are very rich and engaging. While the end tied things together rather nicely, I feel as if this could have been a whole series of books, at least one book for each generation. Toward the middle I got the feeling that someone w... view book
