about me

I've been writing fiction since I was about 9. I started off writing fantasy stories, and my very first venture into non-school-related writing was my own mini-adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. I started to write general fiction when I hit my late teens, mostly because fantasy no longer seemed 'cool enough'. Then I got older, got more sense and got bored, so I'm happily back to my first love.

favourite books

Haruki Murakami 'The Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World', Alan Hollinghurst, 'Line of Beauty', J.R.R. Tolkien 'The Lord of the Rings', Philip Pullman 'His Dark Materials' George R.R. Martin 'A Song of Ice and Fire', and too many more to list here...

The Two Mages

E.R. Coureaux

One Mage wants to save the world, the other to destroy it. Each needs the help of the other.

Young Mage Raji Al’Xacxa is forced to flee his home in the mountains when the same dark creatures who murdered his parents come in search of him. A mysterious minstrel helps to organise his escape along with a mercenary and an orphaned village boy, sending them to join a raven-haired swordswoman with a quest of her own. Together, the four journey to the northern kingdom of Valaria in search of answers, a journey which leads them to the Rose Tower, seat of power of the Order of Mages. There, they find themselves caught up in a tangled web of murder and political intrigue, soon discovering that this is only the beginning of a much larger struggle, one whose outcome will determine the very existence of their world.

The Two Mages is the first book in the Ilkwar Saga, an epic fantasy series in the vein of J.R.R. Tolkien, Raymond E. Feist and Robert Jordan.

Hi Phil, I've just read the Prologue and the first three chapters. Well done. It's a great read and draws you in straight away. The writing flows very well too, and there is some great visual imagery, especially in Chapter 2, in the forest scene. I liked this one the most. Good move also to switc... view book

Hi Kayla Just had a look at your first chapter and really enjoyed it. You write very descriptively and use some beautiful metaphors. I also liked the 'oblong and pointed like the body of a fish' metaphor a lot. I'm not sure about 'stomach ached with anger'. Perhaps a stronger word than 'ached'... view book

Hi Ian Read the first four chapters there. Love the punchy writing style. What quirky, oddball characters! They are very well-captured through the dialogue. I think there is also quite a strong visual element, and I can picture it as a movie. Overall, probably not the kind of book I'd usually go... view book

Hi A.G., Got a look at the first few chapters of your book there. It has a great, fast pace and quickly builds suspense and mystery. The writing generally flows very well too. I wasn't 100% sure about the prologue and I think the opening chapters are stronger, but maybe it's more of a subjective... view book
