about me

I am an avid reader and writer of young adult fiction. I love a bit of dystopia which could be my attempts to be slightly rebellious. Or maybe not! I have had short stories published in the British Fantasy Society journal Dark Horizons, PANK magazine and the Medulla Literary Review.

Follow me on twitter for updates (and occasional rants).

I'm seeking representation and publication. If you like please contact me :)

The Blemished

Sarah Dalton

In a world where Cloning has taken over Mina Hart is Blemished. She is different. But can she save young girls from the Operation?

Mina Hart lives alone with her Father in Area 14 the East District of England controlled by the Government. She is Blemished – the last generation of children conceived without cloning – and her genes count for nothing. The Blemished don’t talk back, they don’t fight or stand up for themselves – but Mina has different ideas about that…

In the near future Cloning has taken over Britain. What began as an experiment to find cures for human disease has turned into a market where parents chose genes to clone their children. What was meant to be a breakthrough in science has become a beauty contest in a land where men rule and women are neutered. In this world Mina Hart was conceived naturally. She is Blemished. She is among the last generation of teenagers born before the Operation was introduced.

Mina is a second class citizen in Area 14 but she is not willing to go down without a fight. Mina is different and with her small team of friends Mina comes to terms with her extra-sensory gift and searches for the freedom to chose.

Thanks! The entire book is with an editor at the moment so it might be best if I wait til it comes back and make the changes (as well as using the comments below) before I post the rest up. I'm currently writing the sequel too, so there may be even more to read ; ) view book

Thank you Ophelia for writing such a detailed critique! Please don't think I could be offended - on the contrary your constructive criticism is both useful and encouraging. I'll definitely be collating everyone's comments when I edit the book. I've not been around on Authonomy much recently but ... view book

Hi Michelle, Thanks for your comments. The Blemished are people who haven't been cloned. But there are some older generation Blemished people who live with clones because they are rich and influential. These people do not have babies but instead choose to clone their children. They aren't fo... view book

I think this is the first book on here where I've wanted to keep reading after chapter one. This is good, really good. You can tell that you know this character inside out. His voice is strong and I hope this level stays consistent through the rest of the book. I will be back to read more :) view book

You obviously have a great imagination and ideas but I feel like there is something holding back the potential of this piece. I love vampire books and yet I found myself losing interest quite quickly. First and foremost I recommend you get out there are read every genre you can think of. Your wr... view book
