about me

Raised on a diet of Famous Five and Swallow and Amazons it shouldn't be a surprise that I love a good adventure read. In my own works there are a lot less picnics and people do die (sometimes quite violently).
I write by running a script in my head and writing down what I see. I own a house rabbit named Rufus and play the trumpet (and when I say play I use that term in the loosest sense). I hate being too busy to write and celery.

favourite books

Garth Nix for his Sabriel series, Robert Muchamore for Cherub and now the Hendersons Boys, Rick Yancey for making geeks heroic in his Alfred Kropp series, Ali Sparkes for writing great books and also being such a nice person, James Patterson for Maximum Ride, Charlie Higson for showing perfectly the affect of not growing up and how to think like a small boy when you aren't, Anthony Horowitz for whenever he puts pen to paper and just recently Alex Scarrow for Timeriders. From my wife's book collection I have so say there is much to be said for both Lauren Kate and Becca Fitzpatrick's awesome angel reads.
For my inner primary self I love Marcus Sedwick for putting a raven as the narrator in The Raven Mysteries and Martyn Beardsley's Sir Gadabout books for showing exactly how to make a child laugh.

Rephaim

Martyn Housley-Smith

An Indiana Jones'esque romp set in alternative Victorian Britain. Secret Orders, ancient beings, cross global adventures and an ending even I didn't see coming.

Eryka's father has made a discovery that will rock the foundations of social order; he has the bones of one of the giants spoken of in ancient texts. When he disappears after an outspoken speech at Lundon University, Eryka is thrown into a world of secret spies and ancient orders in a quest to rescue her father and find the last resting place of the Rephaim before it is too late.

Nephilim

Martyn Housley-Smith

Three teen angels are forced to face the truth of their origins in a fast paced action fantasy.

In the war with the Fallen, three teenage nephilim and the priest who raised them battle to prevent those cast out of Heaven making Hell a reality on earth. But when their mentor is fatally wounded he is forced to reveal his true identity as one of those he fought so hard against. His dying words send them on a dangerous journey to uncover their origins and into the lair of the darkest of angels.

Corwinna, The Witch Crow

Martyn Housley-Smith

A witch trapped in the body of a crow promises two misfits their dreams come true. But if it looks too good to be true...

Norman Crabfeather might have expected to be the butt of a fair few name jokes; but he also had a dad who was a pirate and a mum who was a belly dancer and so might be forgiven for thinking that the Fates really did have a grudge against him.
So when he meets Summer, the vegetarian daughter of an undertaker who has a room full of dead animals she has stuffed herself and the disconcerting habit of talking to her dead mum’s portrait he wonders whether having his first real friend is an improvement.
When they find a dying crow in the graveyard Summer thinks the right thing to do to honour it is to mount it for her collection. But neither of them could have known that the crow contained the trapped spirit of a witch, Corwinna Clutterbuck.
Reanimating between sunrise and sunset, Corwinna has the power to make their dreams come true. But what Norman and Summer wish for and what they get are not always the same thing...

Elliott Harker and the Stones ....

Martyn Housley-Smith

Doctor Who meets Indiana Jones in a high octane magical romp through history

When Elliott Harker accidentally discovers the secret to his new history teachers amazing collection of artifacts, he is thrown back in time to 1945, where he meets Violet, the twin he never knew he had. When they both return to his own time they are met by his teacher, Professor Speck, who reveals himself as a Magi from the court of Sirvelius in a world parallel to their own called Merania. He tells them he has been searching for them for many years and that they are destined to pay a part in an ancient prophecy to retrieve four magical stones hidden in their own world's history. With the appearance in the school grounds of a hooded figure intent on stopping them, they are thrown into a race against time that sees them playing football for their lives in Peru at the time of the Aztecs, narrowly escaping the Minotaur in Minoan Crete, rescuing a native American girl from corrupt prospectors in the Wild West and finally battling it out with their malevolent pursuer aboard the RMS Titanic just hours before it sinks. Will Merania fall or will they fulfill their fate?

Thanks so much Jolly Old Saint, I look forward to hearing your views. I haven't read Christopher Moores work, but I am seeking it out as it would be nice to read another male author angel book. I will have a dip at your own works in return but I may be slow as up to Christmas I barely get time to ... view book

Thanks Funky Kitty It definitely isn't a girls angel story and I am glad you liked it enough to read more. There is a smarter version out on smashwords and kindle if you have one - very cheap. I bet you were going to comment on the first line like other people, it seems to be a sticky point b... view book

Thank you so much for the comments, Bethany. I am surprised to see how this work is so popular with a female audience when I really thought it targeted boys. Not that I am complaining, but it has been very unexpected. It is selling quite well on Amazon kindle but obviously paperback is all of our ai... view book

Thank you Ashleigh for the positive feedback. I have had this with agents who think the opening may be too descriptive - too much tell and not enough show - but authonomy readers seem to disagree in many cases. Glad you like it. If you get to the end of the sample (please forgive the few errors I kn... view book
