Queen of Fire

Regine Haensel

A pair of magical silver bracelets and two siblings separated in early childhood are key to defeating an old man's power and evil ambitions.

15-year-old Rowan's world is turned upside down when her herbalist mother drowns during a storm, and the girl finds an old letter from her father. Her mother kept secrets: the goat is really a shape shifter cousin, the father she thought dead is still alive, and she has a younger brother. Why did her mother keep these secrets, what is the danger her father wrote of, is the silver bracelet her mother never wore magic, and does Rown herself have special gifts? She leaves her isolated forest home and heads south, where her father wrote he was going. Someone might be following her, but she also makes friends who help -- Edana, the horse lady, and Grandmother Wisdom of the Grasslands People. Meanwhile 13-year-old Samel, living with his musician father in Aquila, City of Eagles, finds another bracelet and experiments with its powers. Samel, with the help of his friend Alizarine, who paints dreams, learns he has a sister. He confronts his father and persuades him to go find her. They don't realize that someone has been watching them. Can Samel and his father reunite with Rowan and use their gifts to defeat a powerful old man's cruelty and ambition?

I've read the first chapter and am very intrigued. I was born in Germany and have been back a few times (though only once briefly to Munich), so I enjoyed the details that set the story in Germany. The characters are believable and the story captures my interest. One small quibble - I'm not sure ... view book

Hello Sali. You've got some interesting ideas here. However, I think you need to write more scenes - for example in the first paragraph, the first sentence is great, but then I'd like you to take us to that actual retirement event, have us hear the speech and what is being said about John. Later on... view book

Laura, thanks for your kind words about Queen of Fire. So glad you like it. I was able to fix the weird symbols - they resulted because I'd originally converted the document from Word Perfect to Word. Regine view book

I like this a lot so far, but the first paragraph of chapter two is a bit confusing - trying ot get too much into into too short a paragraph? Looking forward to reading more. view book

The characters and the situation sound interesting, however, as others did I had trouble following some of the story -- it didn't feel fleshed out enough for me. Perhaps that is because it is an excerpt. However, keep writing; I think there is promise here. view book
